Cutting-edge, energy-efficient guesthouse - Warburton

Designed as an investment property that would offer a competitive advantage in the bustling holiday rental market, this compact, single-level property excels in energy efficiency and requires minimal maintenance.

While the slope and orientation of the land posed obstacles that demanded careful consideration – such as balancing the need for privacy from neighbouring properties with maximising the stunning views – we strategically oriented the lightweight structure to capture the landscape and create seclusion for the bedrooms, all while maximising sunlight exposure during winter.

The house achieves a superb energy rating, even though the site had poor orientation, with limited sun and therefore poor solar gains. It is future-proofed in terms of its energy efficiency in that it already surpasses the performance levels of standard homes, and its outstanding insulation ensures warmth during winter and coolness during summer. The inclusion of UPVC double-glazed windows and bushfire-resilient materials further enhance the energy efficiency and safety of the design.

The project has a modern aesthetic with sleek and contemporary interiors in a spacious, open-plan layout, which provides various living and dining options to cater to a diverse range of guests. The wide outdoor elevated deck offers panoramic views of the breathtaking Upper Yarra Valley and Mount Victoria, and the log fire and a chef's kitchen complete the stunning internal aesthetic and ambiance of this modern, energy-efficient guesthouse.
